TET HUNGARY 2020 – NORTHERN SECTION – Day 1 Part 2

“SWAMP- AND WASTELAND”
Part 2 of 2

This is the sequel of my ride report concerning my first day following the northern section of the Trans Euro Trail in Hungary. If you haven’t already read the first part, I highly recommend to start with it first, before continuing with this part! The first part is available via the following link: “TET HUNGARY 2020 – NORTHERN SECTION – Day 1”.

And now let’s continue with the second part …

You surely remember, that Чернотa and I arrived at the early afternoon of day one at this lookout on a little hill in northern/central Hungary. The nice bench in the background invited me, for having a short power nap. After about twenty minutes of resting it was time to continue our ride along Hungarys TE-Trail. Here in the …

hilly terrain …

Hungary showed …

me and my black beauty …

its nice, …

and very …

idyllic beauty. After the wet experiences, which Чернотa and I made during this day’s morning, we got used …

to the provided nice dry tracks.

Some vineyards at the edge of civilization, …

and a dark forest road later, the

difficult level of the route …

gained again. Sadly I wasn’t able to capture the slope of this washed out soil track in a picture; but you can believe me when I say, that also with a lightweight KTM 690 Enduro, it isn’t easy …

to follow such arm fatiguing ruts and washouts, always trying to avoid to slip into a rut or falling down due to the uneven surface. But as folks say: “No pain, no glory.” ^^

Just after the washouts, Чернотa and I rode through one of the …

most beautiful parts along Hungarys Northern TET-Section.

Here the track is following an about 10 km or 6 mi long loop through …

a wide open …

and impressive hillscape. Along the TET-Route you will also find …

several massive oak trees, like this one.

Aside the trail I made two interesting observations:

This tree which carried some kind of red chili pepper fruits on his branches …

a “customs station” (ZOLL=customs) in the middle of Hungary, miles and miles away from the next border. I wasn’t able to find anything about it in the web. Maybe it is a left over from the Austrian – Hungarian Empire. *shrug*

The landscape varied from …

dense forests, …

big corn fields …

and a real huge …

area, totally covered …

with myriads of sunflowers. While I was distracted by the impressive scenery, …

suddenly Чернотas back wheel washed out on that greasy part of the track. I wasn’t able to hold the bike upright. So I felt down. After a check of my testicles it was clear: Nothing serious happened neither to me, nor my black beauty Чернотa. We traversed …

afterwards a little village, …

stopped for this funny looking plants (I have no idea what kind of tree/plant this is) and …

had also a closer look to this very blue, rock hard berries aside the track. It already was late afternoon …

and today’s riding goal, the by highest hill in this area appeared in the distance.

Чернотa tractored us easily up that thing. The view …

was a lovely one …

from the hill top.

Indifferent which direction …

you were looking to. That scenery was …

perfect for making a few nice pictures …

of my trusty …

black beauty Чернотa. Following this, I started to find a suitable camping spot for the incoming night. A …

short glance to the weather forecast told me, that after a few little showers in the evening, during the second half of the incoming night, a little but heavy thunderstorm will appear in this area. Doh!

Because it already was late in the afternoon and I felt hungry. I decided to stay where I was.

I placed the tent …

… in a ditch between the both highest points of this double-peaked hill behind some bushes for wind protection. Because the first showers were announced within about two hours, it was time for making the dinner preparation.

This time on the menu …

The ingredients; from top left to bottom right …

Ingredients: Oil, three big spoons of soy sauce and one spoon of honey – each filled in a little bottle, salt+pepper, one onion, one egg, salad, two buns, some tasty cheese and the most important one: about 500 grams of minced beef meat.

1.) Cut the onion in rings!

2.) Put the meat and the egg together, add some pepper and mix it!

3.) Shape 3 equal sized patties and let them rest for at least 10 minutes!

4.) In the meanwhile sizzle the onions with oil til they turn gold brown!

6.) Add soy sauce and honey to the onions! Stir it til the honey caramelize and then put it aside!

7.) Roast the patty!

8.) Peel off a few salad leafs!

9.) Turn the patty!

10.) Add cheese on top and let it melt!

11.) Cut the buns in halves! Put the fabulous sweet and sour flavored onions on the bottom half! (Soy sauce+caramelized Honey = no need for additional BBQ-Sauce. Believe me!)

12.) Next its time to assemble the Adventure Burger: Add onto the top of the bottom bun with the onions a layer of cheese, then a big salad leaf, the meat patty with melted cheese and lastly complete the burger with the buns cap. That’s it. Just make sure to …

The Adventure Burger: Tastes best with a great view in front!

13.) grab a bottle of beer and enjoy the great taste of “Tom’s Adventure Burger”!

While chomping two burgers on top of that nice hill, I checked the sky. It was obvious that rain was incoming within the next half hour. The clouds went dark and also a breeze of wind came up – typical signs of an incoming thunderstorm.

After dinner, I swallowed the last gulp of my beer and went of for cleaning the cooking gear.

Just when everything was sorted and stowed, daylight quickly faded and the wind was gaining strength. A last glance to the west …

showed, that heavy rain already had started just a few miles away. Now it was time for a last tension check of the tent cords and an inspection of the tent pegs for proper mount in the soil.

Shortly after doing this, the first heavy raindrops appeared. I crawled into the tent, closed all the zips well and began to read on my Scifi-Ebook. The intensity of rain gained strength and reached a few times a scary dimension. Around 10 pm it stopped raining. I was tired, so it was time for turning the light off …
