DAY RIDE 2018_05

“THE AFTERNOON GRAVEL RIDE”

In August 2018 I tried a new track in my closer surrounding. The track itself was planned via open source material available online. As always I have to say that the online map material is in the meanwhile grown to a really mighty routing tool set.
With it it’s a pleasure to plan such tracks which is finally also working in the field. You will see it in the great impressions below which I’d taken on this afternoon ride …

TRIP DATA:
DATE: August 2018; DISTANCE: 145km or 90mi; GRAVEL/STREET RATIO: 80/20; HIGHLIGHTS: Many good pictures!

This about 145km or 90 miles long route followed mostly on gravel tracks through the eastern Lower Austria and the northern Part of the Burgenland. Over the Leitha-mountains it leads my black beauty and me further along the reed belt of Lake Neusiedel and some wine yards until close to the border with Hungary. After that we passed Eisenstadt and rode via Asphalt back over the “mountains”. The last 40km on gravel brought us through the fields back to the city.

Gravel: The surface of pleasure! Чернотa and I used a freeway side street for entrance in our track. It led us to some …

big harvested and other …

fields. (That are two or three sunflowers) ^^

The first forest part this day …

brought us to a little wine yard.

After we passed the village …

Ebergassing we rode on along …

the dike of the river Fischa.

As often happens in the eastern part of Austria …

some wind turbines showed up. Via …

more or less …

sneaky

forrest trails we climbed the …

Leitha-“mountains” (I have no idea why these hills are called so wrong).

Austrias wood industry has a few big temptations for enduro riders: There are plenty of …

tracks leading into the …

woods. Sadly on most of them it’s illegal to ride a motorcycle. There are also many open legal questions regarding accident responsibility and liability of the bike- and personal accident insurance in the worst case. Due to this I strictly suggest to everyone who wants to ride such tracks in Austria, that its not allowed. So each imitating is at your own risk! (the fine print … ^_^ )

Over the summer this meadow has grown a lot.

The tracks in the forest went on. Sometimes they have been real fast to ride like this one.

Sometimes a bit of a slower pace …

was necessary.

After the woods Чернотa and I reached …

the eastern side of the Leitha “Mountains”.

On the small strip of land there between the hills and Lake Neusiedl are …

big fields located.

We passed the village Donnerskirchen while, …

we followed some rails.

An abandoned “driving forbidden sign” in the middle of nowhere.

Burgenland is famous for the stork nests on the chimneys of the houses. Here’s a single stork near …

the reed belt of Lake Neusiedl.

My black beauty brought us …

as close as possible to the lake, where a small boat …

was leaving along a channel for the open lake. As everywhere in the world: When there is a beautiful water, …

big wealthy houses with a own boat pier are close.

Riding along the …

plains near the lake brought us to this …

Hovercraft. A search on the internet showed that this thing is probably a reed harvester.

Near the village “Rust” we followed again some …

wine yard tracks which offered a nice view to the lake. Close to the …

Hungarian border we went again into …

the woods. Along the tracks there …

Чернотa and I came to a track …

which was heavy overgrown. First with high flowers …

later with some raspberry shrubs. Ouch!

Close to the border with Hungary we found a nice new play ground. I love to rummage around in stone pits. But not now. We …

went on along some dirt …

westwards, where the …

low standing sun provided a great scenery.

The ride continued to…

Eisenstadt, where we had a short rest at a transformer station.

After a short piece of some of the finest tarmac …

we pushed on mostly on gravel back in direction of the city Vienna.

Near the castle Seibersdorf a …

deer compound was passed.

Along the last few kilometers along some railway lines …

the sinking sun offered another great …

light spectacle.

My black beauty Чернотa and I arrived in the …

early evening at the edge of the city Vienna. A short but great ride found its end. In the meanwhile this track became one of my favored house routes for a half day ride.

Total distance this half-day-ride: 145km or 90mi.
